Burfday Fun

This weekend we had some birthday fun, celebrating 60 years on earth for Wes. Some little birdy let the cat out of the bag, so lots of folks joined in the fun.

The fun really got started Friday night at the Annual Pardner's Banquet for the Agape PRC in Round Rock, held annually at the TDS Pavilion and Game Preserve. Here we are joined by Don & Debbie Bebee, Dan & Linda Jacobson, and Boyd & Danae Bush. Our entertainment was Dennis Swannberg. We did some laughing!

Wes got to start his Saturday off the way he likes it; strong coffee, feeders full, camera ready. It helped that a cool front came through for comfort!

I caught him out in the yard trying to catch a Cardinal in the Possum Haw. No luck today.

Even had friends dropping by to bring birthday cards. Wes likes to refer to Karen Stump as his long-lost sister.

Then to our favorite local haunt Dahlia's for a larripin' breakfast of a Liberty Hill omelet and sweat cream pancake. MMMmmmm good!

It was a special treat to join old old friends Tommy and Robin Tollett at River City Grill's deck in Marble Falls for fish tacos. Good times.

Wes finally paused long enough in his busy day to have a bite of the banana nut cake (his mom's recipe!) that I prepared that morning. Yes, that is sheer delight you see in his eyes.

Then set him down in front of a new edition of Birds&Blooms and you have a happy camper.

And the winner is...! So many wonderful cards. Lower left is a custom-created and hand-made card from Linda Swayze that was just over the top good. Many laughs, some tears, but all appreciated. I am very thankful for my wonderful husband, his birth, and his life!

Quality Time with Family

There's just nothing like spending quality time with family, especially family that we don't get to see every day! Recently had some good visits with matriarchs from both sides of our families; Aunt Mildred Burk and Mawmaw Sylvia Griffin. It gives us hope for our future that these ladies, ages 91 and 88 respectively, are sharp and enjoying life to the fullest.

My brother Jim and his wife Aggie were visiting Mildred, so we grabbed the opportunity to horn in and enjoy the fun. We had a great meal at Cheddar's, then returned to Aunt Mildred's for some peach cobbler. Mildred was somewhat distracted, because her Rangers were playing. She enjoys explaining the game of baseball to us. We think she ought to apply to do the play-by-play, since she knows all the players stats without looking at a book!

Sunday after church we ran to New Braunfels so we could take Mawmaw out and buy her some lunch to celebrate Wes's up-coming birthday. She can't believe she has a son that old! McAdoo's located in the old Post Office is Wes's fave in NB, so it was Cajun Enchiladas all the way around. We also delivered photo prints from our Frio vacation with the Griffin clan, and made a book exchange (we trade the Mitford series back and forth).
What a blessing to have family like Mildred and Sylvia!
